Kedah MB to seek Sultan’s nod to replace exco man

ALOR STAR, Aug 23 — Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak said today he would have an audience with the Sultan of Kedah tomorrow to convey a request by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to replace state executive councillor Mohd Radzhi Salleh who quit PKR today to become an independent assemblyman for Lunas.

"It is at the behest of Tuanku (the Sultan) that executive councillors are appointed and dropped. I will present PKR's request for him (Mohd Radzhi) to be dropped.

"The position remains under the PKR quota unless PKR wants to give it to someone else," he told a news conference at his office at Wisma Darul Aman here following Mohd Radzhi's announcement in Kuala Lumpur that he had quit PKR.

Kedah PKR chairman Ahmad Kasim, who was present at the news conference, said the Pakatan coalition was even ready for a possible by-election in Lunas, if the matter should go to that extent.

Mohd Radzhi, who is the Tourism, Community Development and Human Resources Committee chairman, had announced in Kuala Lumpur today that he was quitting PKR and would continue to serve the Lunas constituents as an independent assemblyman as he had lost confidence in the PKR leadership.

He had also said that he was resigning from the party in keeping with a decision of the Padang Serai PKR division to dissolve.

Mohd Radzhi said he would retain the post of state executive councillor as the appointment was made by the sultan.

Ahmad said PKR would ask Mohd Radzhi to resign as the assemblyman for Lunas as he had won the seat on the party ticket.

He also said that the Padang Serai PKR division had been suspended and its administration taken over by the party's state leadership until the next general meeting of the division.
